Dental Hygiene

Healthy teeth = healthy smile

Beautiful smile with healthy teeth and gums are the result of long-term, good and regular care. It’s not enough to just visit your dentist; the dental hygienists play an important role as well.

Who is a dental hygienist

A certified dental hygienist is a qualified professional who works under the leadership of a dentist and who plays an important part of comprehensive dental care. The dental hygienist carries out well-defined range of activities and prepares a client for further dental examination. However, dental hygienist´s care is not a substitute for dental care.
The hygienist is mainly responsible for the prevention and one does not have to be afraid of the visit. If you follow all principles
of dental care you will be pleasantly surprised by the result and will not come into your dental appointment with a fear.
Even if you don’t have any problems with teeth, we recommend two visits at the dental hygiene per year.

Why should you visit a dental hygiene office

  • clean  tooth can not get ill
  • microbial plaque is a cause of problems with teeth
  • status of our teeth and gums influence our overall health
  • if you assume proper teeth tooth cleaning techniques and choose suitable dental equipment you will not come to the dental appointment with a fear and your visit will dispense any painful surgeries
  • regular and proper care will ensure healthy teeth for the whole life

How the examination runs

If you have never been at dental hygiene, screening will be very detailed.
You will complete a comprehensive initial examination, which consists of several parts and its results with the basis for further care.

First, hygienist will provide overall anamnesis. This provides an overall picture of the state of your teeth and potential health problems.
Then a series of clinical examinations is focused on the state of oral hygiene and periodontal will follow. They especially include the examination of dental plaque and tartar presence, periodontal trunks, mobility of teeth and gums state examination.
After the evaluation of the overall oral cavity condition, dental hygienist will explain possible causes of your problems and advise appropriate treatment methods and prevention.

Within the scope of this visit you will undergo the removal of tartar and plaque and finally the hygienist will clean and polish your teeth.

During the dental care, remember:

...good teeth cleaning technique
Teeth cleaning is carried out by the small gradual circular movements, brushing each tooth separately and from both sides. Another way is brushing the teeth down from root to crown. There is no need to push on toothbrush, otherwise it could cause gums irritation and injury. If the proper brushing technique is assumed, the teeth are deprived of teeth plaque, bacteria and other impurities and creation of teeth caries or inflammation is prevented.

... use appropriate tools

Throughout a proper dental care using only one toothbrush, paste and mouthwash is not enough. Normal toothbrush cleans teeth on the surface, but doesn’t penetrate into trouble spots between teeth. Careful cleaning of interdental spaces is carried out by the use of special toothbrushes and dental floss. Dental hygienist measures the interdental spaces, determine the appropriate size of interdental toothbrushes and recommend additional dental tools. Not only toothpaste and mouthwash will prevent a dental caries, but the most important is proper teeth cleaning technique.

...regular care
The teeth need to be cleaned at least 2x a day (morning and evening) and preferably after each meal. During the evening cleaning it is important to focus on the interdental spaces and careful removal of the teeth plaque. The important part of good dental care is 2 preventative examinations at the dental hygienists per year.
