Be aware of Hepatitis A

Actualized 2010-11-05

Dear clients,

According to latest information published by The National Institute of Public Health, the number of people infected by hepatitis A is rising. From the beginning of the year till the end of August, 480 infected people were recorded. It is has been a dramatic increase with respect to the fact that within the same period of time between 2001 and 2009 only 168 people were infected

Currently this type of hepatitis (also called the “disease of dirty hands”) occurs in the whole area of the Czech Republic. The hepatitis virus is secreted by stool and is highly resistant. It is able to survive in room temperature for several days. The infection can be transmitted anywhere, the virus is present on money, handrail in public transport, handles of shopping trolley etc.

How to protect yourselves?

The main preventative measure is consistent hygiene, especially washing hands before eating, after WC usage, after the return from the outside etc.

Very effective prevention is also vaccination, which is offered at our clinics in Prague and Brno.
