Unique model of postnatal care of mother and child
The Department of Obstetrics applies a unique model of postnatal care of mother and child. This includes:
- Daily morning and evening visits by the attending doctor, the pediatrician and, if epidural anesthesia was used during labor, by the anesthetist;
- Midwifery care during the entire stay in the room;
- Assistance in looking after the newborn provided by the midwife who encourages and teaches how to put the baby to the breast and shows how to handle difficult situations;
- Everyday assessment of baby’s general health;
- Midwife’s assistance in everyday hygiene and dressing changes;
- Possibility of comfortable rest for the patient with the baby taken care of by the medical personnel in the Neonatology Unit or in the indirect care room;
- Midwife’s instructions on how to care for stitches at home;
- Comprehensive activities necessary for the mother and her child before returning home – recommendations on how to look after a newborn and take care of one’s breasts during lactation, baby’s screening tests, including the tests for rare genetic diseases and hearing tests.
