The Department of Obstetrics offers single Labor-Delivery-Recovery (LDR) rooms, which makes it possible to provide medical care during all three stages of labor in one room without having to move the woman in labor to other rooms. This system of perinatal care, unique in Poland, lets the mother and her baby stay in one place from the moment of being admitted to the hospital until returning home.
Cosy, comfortable single LDR rooms, intended for women in the early stages of labor, provide appropriate conditions for both physiological and pathological delivery. The rooms have the equipment necessary for monitoring mother and child’s condition during labor as well as the infant resuscitation station.
Comfortable room arrangement and setting enable the application of different antenatal relaxation techniques including hydrotherapy for pain relief. Moreover, there are wall bars and SACO bag, which can bring relief at different stages of labor. The bathroom is equipped with a shower with hydromassage. Some LDR rooms have bathtubs intended for antenatal relaxation. Nearby, there is a modern operating room for women having a Cesarean section.
Newborn babies and their mothers stay in the same room regardless of whether the woman underwent a natural childbirth or had a Cesarean section. Depending on the course of labor, medical needs and patient’s wish, the length of stay in the LDR room is set individually.
After the childbirth women are accommodated in comfortable postnatal rooms of three different standards:
- Single rooms for mother and child,
- Family rooms for mother and child staying with a companion,
- Family apartments for mother and child staying with a companion.
All the rooms have a daily section intended for washing and changing a baby as well as a toilet and a bathroom, a private telephone and the Internet connection. The rooms are also equipped with air-conditioning and air humidity control systems. Postnatal rooms are located nearby the Neonatology Unit, where professional care is provided to both healthy newborns (within the system of indirect care when the woman wants to rest or if the baby condition requires observation only) and the babies that need treatment. Newborns are provided round-the-clock care, also in the Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit located on the same floor. This enables the mother to see her baby at any time.
Patients staying in the Maternity Unit have permanent access to the obstetrician, the pediatrician-neonatologist and the anesthetist. They can also use the services of doctors-consultants accredited by the Medicover Hospital and specialized in problems related to high-risk pregnancy.
During the entire labor the patient has access to individual midwifery care. The midwife looks after the woman during pregnancy, in labor and in the period following childbirth. Midwives care about creating a friendly atmosphere and partnership relations during labor. They encourage parents to cooperate actively during labor and help them prepare themselves mentally and emotionally for the birth of their child. Midwives realize that labor is a natural process and not a disease. They respect parents’ decisions regarding labor, at the same time having regard to mother and child’s safety. They also help mothers look after their babies.
Patients planning to give birth in the Medicover Hospital will have an opportunity to meet midwives during Parental Classes and antenatal consultations.
