Holter Monitor Test

The Holter monitor test consists in continuous monitoring of heart rhythm and heart rate for about 24 hours.

This enables to evaluate the heart’s activity not only at rest but also during everyday activities. The Holter monitor test is useful for evaluation of dysrhythmia that occurs at various times during day and night, for diagnosing collapses, syncopes, and also evaluate the efficacy of treatment of arterial hypertension.

At the Medicover Hospital, suchlike tests are performed using 3- and 12- channel electrocardiographic recorders.

The Holter monitor test can be performed in the doctor’s consulting room, at a patient’s bed and also at home. The electrodes are attached to the chest and are connected through wires to a small, portable, battery-powered device which registers the heart’s activity. The recording equipment is attached to the belt on a patient's hips. During such a test, patients are required to perform normal, everyday activities, and compile notes in which they should record the exact time of meals, walks, driving a vehicle, and also put down every symptom (palpitations, dizziness, dyspnoea).

After completing the test, the doctor analyses the recorded heart activity and notes taken by patients.

The whole test takes usually about 24 hours.
